With the recent increase in drug crimes among teenagers through social networking services (SNS), adolescents tend to fall easily into drug use due to a lack of information about illegal drugs.
To inform these youths about the dangers of drugs and drug abuse, the public, private, and police sectors have rolled up their sleeves to eradicate youth drug use, led by the Suseo Green Parents Association, which has over 8,300 members across 11 elementary schools in the district.
The campaign held on the 7th from 7:20 a.m. in front of Gugak Middle and High School and Poi Elementary School was attended by about 60 people from eight organizations, including the Suseo Green Parents Association, the Korea Youth Development Association Suseo Branch, the Suseo Community Safety Council, Gangnam-gu, Suseo Police Station, school principals, student affairs directors, and student leaders. They wore sashes with promotional slogans such as “Youth Drugs Out” and distributed promotional materials to students to raise awareness about the dangers of illegal drugs.
Gangnam-gu plans to continue the relay campaign in front of 15 schools until June this year and expand the campaign in connection with the Gangnam Green Parents Association, which is based north of Yangjaecheon Stream.
In addition to the campaign, the district plans to expand visiting school education and provide drug abuse prevention education for out-of-school youth and vulnerable youth. Furthermore, the free anonymous drug testing program, which has been in place since August last year, will continue this year.
