Minimizing Flood Damage from Extreme and Concentrated Heavy Rain

Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam is making efforts to minimize damage caused by river flooding during extreme and heavy rainfall.
On the 5th, Sancheong-gun announced that it has established smart measurement management systems at three small rivers: Beomhakcheon in Sancheong-eup, Daehyeoncheon in Obu-myeon, and Saricheon in Sicheon-myeon.
The three rivers where the systems were installed are located near villages and are expected to cause significant damage in the event of flooding.

View original imageAccordingly, with a project budget of 210 million KRW (50% national funds, 50% county funds), a smart measurement management system for small rivers was established to provide safety measures that allow residents to evacuate quickly in case of river flooding.
The small river smart measurement management system can measure water level, flow velocity, and flow rate in real time, and enables real-time video analysis through CCTV monitoring.
It predicts the risk of river flooding during heavy rainfall and guides nearby residents to evacuate promptly in advance, preventing loss of life and property damage.
Sancheong-gun plans to begin full-scale system operation after consulting with the National Disaster Safety Research Institute to connect with the central server.
In particular, after a trial operation period, the county intends to expand the installation of the small river smart measurement management system.
