Eco-Friendly Speed HMM Sells Carbon Reduction Volume to German Logistics Company Hellmann
First Contract Signed for Green Sailing Service
Sale of Reduced Amounts from Use of Eco-Friendly Bio Ship Fuel
HMM sold carbon reduction credits to a German logistics company.
HMM announced on the 4th that it signed its first contract for the 'Green Sailing Service' with the German logistics company Hellmann.
The Green Sailing Service is a service that directly reduces carbon emissions by using low-carbon fuel on ships and trades the resulting carbon reduction credits. In the second half of last year, HMM became the first in Korea to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions by using eco-friendly 'bio marine fuel' as ship fuel. The rights to this reduction amount were transferred to Hellmann in Germany.
Currently, global logistics companies are striving to reduce carbon emissions from an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) perspective. Recently, the scope has been expanding to include carbon reductions (Scope 3) occurring outside the influence of logistics companies, such as raw material production, product transportation, and product usage.
