On the 29th, 13 Ansim Gwiga Scouts Selected: Launch Ceremony and Basic Duty Training
Creating Safe Living Spaces through Safe Return Home and Patrols in High-Crime Areas
Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) selected 13 Safe Return Scouts who patrol crime-prone areas such as dark and secluded alleys to support the safe return of vulnerable groups, and held an inauguration ceremony and basic work training on the 29th.
The Dongdaemun-gu Safe Return Scouts conduct focused patrols around schools, such as high schools that hold night self-study sessions, to alleviate residents' anxiety due to the recent frequent occurrences of stalking and abnormal motive crimes. They accompany residents from nearby bus stops or subway stations all the way home.
In addition, they conduct intensive patrols during late-night hours in university areas and entertainment districts to help prevent various crimes.
The district was the first in the nation to collaborate with the local police station to appoint the scouts as private patrol members. This year, the scouts will continue to work with the Dongdaemun Police Station to serve as local safety guardians. Last year, they conducted 16 joint late-night inspections with the police station, contributing to emergency bell inspections, lighting environment improvements, and new CCTV installations.
Residents who wish to use the Safe Return Scout service can apply through the Seoul city ‘Ansim-i’ app. The service hours are Monday from 10 PM to midnight, and Tuesday to Friday from 10 PM to 1 AM.
