Hanwha Ocean is launching a full-scale working-level consultative body with the UK’s Babcock International Group to secure global submarine business contracts.

Recently, the two companies held a meeting in Warsaw, Poland, and signed a Teaming Agreement that includes the formation of a joint consultative body (Steering Committee) to secure submarine business contracts in global markets such as Poland and Canada.

The event was attended by Seungkyun Jeong, Vice President and Head of Overseas Special Ship Business Division at Hanwha Ocean; Sir Nick Hine, Executive Vice President of AUKUS and International Division at Babcock International; Ewa Kittel-Prejs, Head of Babcock Poland; and Anthony March, Vice President of Babcock Canada Marine Projects.

Earlier in mid-January, Nick Hine, Executive Vice President of Babcock International, visited Korea to closely examine Hanwha Ocean’s submarine R&D, design, and construction capabilities, expressing strong willingness to cooperate. At that time, Vice President Hine proposed collaboration on the integration of weapon launch systems supplied by Babcock for the Jangbogo-III (KSS-III) submarines exported to Poland and Canada, as well as ISS (In Service Support) business cooperation for lifecycle logistics support of the submarines.

Prior to the signing ceremony in Warsaw, engineers from Hanwha Ocean, Hanwha Aerospace, Hanwha Systems?which manufacture key onboard systems for the Jangbogo-III submarines?and Babcock held technical discussions over two days regarding the Polish submarine project. They also visited the PGZ naval shipyard located in Gdynia city to receive updates on the Miecznik frigate construction project from Babcock Poland and discussed potential areas of cooperation for Hanwha Ocean’s future entry into the Polish market.

Seungkyun Jeong, Vice President and Head of Overseas Special Ship Business Division at Hanwha Ocean, emphasized, “The signing of this cooperation agreement between Hanwha Ocean and Babcock will be a significant momentum for securing overseas submarine business contracts. Babcock’s extensive overseas ISS experience and project management capabilities will be a great asset to Hanwha Ocean in the competition for the Polish ORKA submarine project as well as the Canadian CPSP submarine project.”

Nick Hine, Executive Vice President of Babcock, stated, “We are very pleased to cooperate with Hanwha Ocean in global submarine markets such as the Poland and Canada projects. Through joint collaboration between the two companies, we will further develop the strategically required ‘excellent submarines and timely delivery of logistics support’ in the recent submarine export market.”
