Weekly Near-Expiration Sales... Up to 80% Off
As high inflation continues for an extended period, 'near-expiration' products are selling like hotcakes. This is because they are safe to use or consume and can be purchased at prices up to 80% cheaper.
On the 27th, 11st announced that the number of customers purchasing near-expiration products through its Shooting Delivery service in the second half of last year (July to December) increased by 95%, nearly doubling compared to the first half (January to June). During the same period, the transaction amount for near-expiration products also rose by about 47%.
11st’s next-day delivery service, 'Shooting Delivery,' gathers products that are near their expiration date but safe to use or consume and sells them at discounts of up to 80%. 11st explained that the trend of consumers trying to save on food and living expenses due to the sustained inflation burden in recent years has led to the growing popularity of near-expiration products.
The items most frequently purchased by customers were food products such as ▲long-lasting 'frozen convenience foods' (chicken nuggets, pork cutlets, dumplings), ▲cost-effective 'bulk beverages' (24-pack, 48-pack milk and juice), and ▲groceries (stew seasoning, pasta sauce). The best-selling product throughout the year was health supplements (probiotic capsules).
Park Se-hwan, Head of Retail Operations at 11st, said, "With unprecedented inflation, price has become the top factor in purchasing decisions, and there is steady interest in 'practical consumption,' where consumers open their wallets for products with less price burden. The popularity is so high that most of the near-expiration products offered throughout the year are sold out."
This year, 11st will continue to hold the Shooting Delivery 'Near-Expiration Sale' event every Wednesday at 10 a.m. until Friday. The sale covers processed foods, convenience foods, beverages, daily necessities, and pet products, allowing customers to purchase items with expiration dates ranging from at least two weeks to up to six months at discounts of up to 80%.
