1 Team Out of 3 Goes... Endemic Honeymoon Package Ranked No.1 After Beating Hawaii and Maldives
Highest Booking Rate Among Major Travel Agencies
30-40% of Reservations Concentrated in Bali, Indonesia
Resort Conditions Met and Infrastructure Improvements Active
With the transition to endemic (periodic outbreaks of infectious diseases) and the approach of the wedding industry's peak season in spring, interest in honeymoon package products from major travel agencies is increasing. After domestic travel destinations, including Jeju Island, experienced a 'short-term boom' during the COVID-19 period, the number of people choosing overseas destinations for their honeymoon has surged again, with more than one in three couples preferring Bali, Indonesia's representative resort destination.
According to the industry on the 26th, Hana Tour's analysis of honeymoon package reservation rates for this year's wedding season showed that among major honeymoon destinations in spring (March to June) and autumn (September to November), Bali ranked first with 42.1%. This is more than two to three times higher than second-place Hawaii (19%) and third-place Maldives (13.6%). A Hana Tour official explained, "Hawaii, a traditional popular honeymoon destination, has seen significant price increases and many variables such as natural disasters since COVID-19. Bali meets the conditions as a resort destination including luxury resorts, and because general overseas travel products involve cost burdens such as airfare, many people prefer to visit Bali through honeymoon packages."
In Modetour's honeymoon package reservation rates from March to June this year, the proportion choosing Bali was 39%, overwhelmingly surpassing Thailand (19%), Hawaii (16%), and Maldives (11%). Norang Balloon also recorded Bali (39%), Hawaii (20%), Western Europe (17%), Maldives (13%), Thailand (7%), and Mexico (4%) in order, with about 4 out of 10 couples booking Bali. A Norang Balloon official said, "Existing resorts in Bali are undergoing renovations and new resorts are opening, continuously improving infrastructure," adding, "This trend strengthens Bali's position as an attractive travel destination for domestic honeymooners."
Additionally, among those who booked honeymoon products through Kyowon Tour Travel, 32.5% chose Bali, followed by Paris (18.0%), Maldives (11.0%), Hawaii (6.9%), and Rome (6.4%).
Major travel agencies are offering various options such as luxury resorts including pool villas, differentiated activities, and free schedules, structuring products to reflect programs desired by honeymooners. Hana Tour plans to hold a honeymoon expo at its headquarters on the 16th of next month, limited to 100 couples, inviting experts on major travel destinations to assist in product selection.
Since last year, COVID-19 related restrictions have been lifted, such as simplified entry procedures for popular honeymoon destinations, leading to a rapid recovery in demand for overseas honeymoon packages. Modetour reported that from January this year to the 23rd, related product reservation rates increased by 65% compared to the same period last year, and Norang Balloon's honeymoon travel product reservation rates for first-quarter departures rose about 20% compared to 2019, before the COVID-19 outbreak.

An industry insider said, "Typically, package travel products are mainly used by middle-aged and older adults, while younger generations prefer free travel where they design their own flights, accommodations, and sightseeing visits," adding, "Through honeymoon packages, travel agencies can not only connect with the 20s and 30s generation but also increase interest in package travel, so they put considerable effort into product composition."
