Newly established Dongmyung University (President Jeon Ho-hwan) has advanced to the semifinals of the 60th Spring College Football Federation Tournament (Hansan Battle Cup) by achieving consecutive come-from-behind victories. Despite being a newly formed team founded last December, they have been creating a relentless whirlwind and are poised to claim the championship.
On the 23rd, at the 4th field of Tongyeong Sanyang Sports Park, Dongmyung University secured a thrilling 3-2 comeback win against Hongik University in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Dongmyung took the lead with an early goal in the first half, then the score went through 1-1, 1-2, 2-2, and finally 3-2, crafting a dramatic turnaround. It was a moment that once again astonished the entire nation.
Riding their winning streak into the semifinals, Dongmyung University will face Kyung Hee University on Sunday the 25th at 12:30 PM, battling for a spot in the final.
Earlier, Dongmyung also overturned a 3-1 victory against Sungkyunkwan University in the round of 16.
Led by head coach Lee Chang-won, who has nurtured many pillars of Korean football including national team striker Hwang Hee-chan, the Dongmyung University football team was officially launched on December 20 last year and is making its debut in this tournament.
Dongmyung University, which is establishing a football department for the 2024 academic year, is providing full support to Coach Lee Chang-won, including offering him a professorship. The university is also creating an international standard football field on campus, a strategy meeting room, a dedicated training room, a player rehabilitation team, and even providing a team bus.
