KOR-Uzbek, Strengthening Customs Cooperation Basis with 'Revised Protocol' in Effect
The Protocol Amending the Agreement on Cooperation in Customs Matters between the Government of the Republic of Korea and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Korea-Uzbek Customs Mutual Assistance Agreement Protocol) will come into effect on the 24th, following the completion of domestic procedures in both countries.
According to the Korea Customs Service on the 23rd, the Customs Mutual Assistance Agreement is a treaty that stipulates professional and technical matters of customs administration to enhance cooperation in customs fields such as information exchange and personnel exchanges between the two countries.
The government signed the Agreement on Cooperation in Customs Matters with the Republic of Uzbekistan in 1999 and has been working on revising the agreement since 2021 to reflect the changing trade environment and the increasing trade trend between the two countries.
This amended protocol specifies cooperation between the customs authorities of both countries by regulating cooperation in combating trade crimes such as blocking the trade of smuggled goods and intellectual property rights infringements, technical cooperation in customs procedures simplification and acceleration, and sharing customs policies and related experiences and knowledge.

Currently, Korea is implementing Customs Mutual Assistance Agreements with a total of 26 countries, including Uzbekistan.
