Geumcheon-gu Operates Citizen Informatization Education to Experience 4th Industrial Technology
New IT Convergence Practice Center Established to Experience Latest Technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI)
PC and Smartphone Education, Kiosk Experience, and Outreach Education for Daily Life
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) announced that it will operate citizen informatization education at the computer training center on the basement first floor of Geumcheon-gu Office until December to eliminate the information gap between classes and strengthen the digital capabilities of residents.
Last year, 24 courses were operated 297 times with 1,307 people completing the courses, and a satisfaction survey showed a high satisfaction score of 94.2 points.
This year, the district will install and operate an IT convergence practice training center where residents can experience the latest technologies. Practical training on various new technologies such as video production, coding, robotics, extended virtual worlds (metaverse), artificial intelligence (AI), and drones will be conducted.
In the existing general training center, education necessary for daily life such as computers, internet, smartphones, Hangul, Excel, PPT, and graphics is provided.
Six kiosk experience zones will be operated to assist elderly residents who have difficulty with non-face-to-face ordering. Using educational kiosks, participants can experience ordering food, booking movie tickets, KTX reservation and ticket issuance, payment, and receipt printing as if in real situations.
Special lectures to protect residents from financial fraud using phone calls and text messages are also held monthly.
Additionally, a ‘Digital Counseling Center’ providing 1:1 personal guidance to resolve individual questions arising during the courses is operated. Applications can be made through Naver reservation, and it operates for one hour per person every Friday.
‘Visiting informatization education’ is also provided for welfare centers and facilities for the disabled in the region.
Education is divided into regular courses (20 hours, 8 sessions per month) and special lecture courses (10 hours, 4 sessions per month) on a monthly basis. Courses are subdivided from basic to advanced levels, allowing participants to choose lectures suitable for their level.
Residents who wish to enroll can apply from around the 25th of each month through the Geumcheon-gu Office website’s ‘Education Portal’ or the Citizen Informatization Education Call Center. Selection of students is determined by a computerized lottery rather than first-come-first-served, with priority given to new applicants. Tuition is free, but students must bear the cost of textbooks.
