The Only Area in Gyeongnam Province Achieving Grade 1
Selected as an Area with Excellent Improvement Level
Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 21st that it achieved a Grade 1 rating in the living safety category among the 2023 Regional Safety Indexes announced by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety published the ‘2023 National Regional Safety Index,’ an index that objectively diagnoses and represents the relative safety capabilities such as safety levels and safety awareness by region and category.
Based on 2022 statistics, the regional safety index evaluates local governments’ safety capabilities in six areas: ▲traffic accidents ▲fires ▲crime ▲living safety ▲suicide ▲infectious diseases. These are divided into five grades, with Grade 1 accounting for 10%, Grade 2 for 25%, Grade 3 for 30%, Grade 4 for 25%, and Grade 5 for 10%. The closer to Grade 1, the higher the safety level and safety awareness.
Geochang-gun was the only area in Gyeongnam Province to receive a Grade 1 rating in the living safety category, and its grades improved in the crime, living safety, and suicide categories, making it an excellent region with improvements in three or more categories.
