Pyeongtaek City Enacts 'Semiconductor Development and Support Ordinance'
Establishing Legal Grounds for Corporate Support Including Investment, Contribution, Subsidy, and Loan
"Fostering a Manufacturing and Research Hub Centered on Samsung Electronics and KAIST"
Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 21st that it has promulgated and enacted the "Ordinance on the Promotion and Support of the Semiconductor Industry," which serves as the legal basis for fostering the local semiconductor industry, effective from the 20th.
The newly established ordinance stipulates matters such as ▲the establishment of a comprehensive five-year plan for the promotion and support of the semiconductor industry ▲investment, endowment, subsidy, and loan support for semiconductor technology development, workforce training, and business support ▲the establishment of an industry-academia-research cooperation system ▲and the operation of the Pyeongtaek City Semiconductor Industry Growth Engine Promotion Team.
In particular, the city explained that with the enactment of this ordinance, it will be able to strengthen support for semiconductor companies to maximize the economic, educational, and industrial development effects in the region.
The city plans to develop Pyeongtaek as a future hub for semiconductor manufacturing and research, centered on the Samsung Electronics Pyeongtaek Campus, designated last July as a national advanced strategic industry specialized complex, and KAIST, selected as a national advanced strategic industry semiconductor specialized graduate school.
Additionally, through the semiconductor process and manufacturing education course at the Pyeongtaek Future Technology School, which will open in the first half of this year, the city aims to supply practical personnel needed by local semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment companies, while also building a world-class semiconductor ecosystem through research and development (R&D) support and the discovery of demonstration projects.
