Gyeonggi-do to Build Nation's First 'Fire Safety Complex Building' in April Next Year
Gyeonggi Province will build the nation’s first ‘Fire Safety Complex Building.’
On the 21st, Gyeonggi Province announced that by April 2025, it will construct a fire safety complex building housing six facilities including a Safety Control Center, Safety Experience Center, Trauma Center, Fire History Museum, and Fire Disaster Headquarters at the former Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly building in Paldal-gu, Suwon.
Previously, to efficiently respond to changes in disaster environments such as demographic shifts, climate change, and new infectious diseases, Gyeonggi Province has been working for over 10 years to expand the Fire Disaster Headquarters building.
Since 1996, the Fire Disaster Headquarters has been operating from the Suwon Gwonseon-dong building. During this time, the organization has grown about ninefold, and the population under its jurisdiction increased from 7 million to 13.9 million. Meanwhile, the number of specially managed fire targets and property damage caused by fires surged approximately sixfold and seventeenfold respectively, making the relocation of the headquarters an urgent issue.
The fire safety complex building, scheduled for completion next year, will be designed as a “citizen safety culture space where individuals can directly see, feel, and communicate about their safety,” divided into six themes: the Safety Control Center (119 comprehensive situation room), Safety Experience Center, Trauma Center, Fire History Museum, Gyeonggi Fire Disaster Headquarters, and Safety & Opportunity Tower.
Regarding the main facilities, the former main assembly hall of the provincial assembly will be preserved structurally and transformed into a Safety Control Center similar in design to NASA’s Mission Control Center. This area will feature a tiered 119 call reception and consultation desk, allowing permanent viewing from three sides by anyone.
Gyeonggi Province expects this to become a landmark of safety in Gyeonggi where citizens can experience the importance of safety and communicate.

The Trauma Center will be established to provide counseling and healing programs not only for firefighters but also for citizens affected by disasters.
Additionally, the Fire History Museum will display over 300 firefighting artifacts and dioramas (scale models), and the Safety & Opportunity Tower honoring fallen firefighters and social heroes will be constructed in the building’s plaza.
Considering the historical significance and characteristics of the Assembly building, a Legislative History Museum and an open permanent committee meeting room will also be installed to allow youth to experience legislative activities.
Gyeonggi Province anticipates that once the fire safety complex building opens, it will employ about 500 staff members and attract approximately 50,000 visitors annually, greatly contributing to the revitalization of the surrounding commercial district.
Jo Sun-ho, head of the Gyeonggi Fire Disaster Headquarters, emphasized, “The fire safety complex building will not only create synergy through the integration of safety facilities but also provide an opportunity to dramatically elevate the safety culture level of our citizens. It will serve as a model case globally. Based on improved citizen safety and a better local economy, we will make Gyeonggi Province a globally safe opportunity hub.”
Meanwhile, ahead of the construction of the fire safety complex building, the Fire Disaster Headquarters is holding a naming contest for the new complex building.
