Lee Chan-hee, Chairman of the Samsung Compliance Committee, stated on the necessity of Lee Jae-yong, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, returning as a registered executive, saying, "In the sense of strengthening responsible management, it would be better for him to return as a registered director at an appropriate time, as soon as possible."

Earlier that day, Samsung Electronics held a board meeting and decided not to discuss the agenda for appointing Chairman Lee as a director at the regular shareholders' meeting scheduled for the 20th of next month. Instead, they decided to propose the appointment of former Financial Services Commission Chairman Shin Je-yoon and former Korea Robotics Society Chairwoman Cho Hye-kyung as outside directors. Although Chairman Lee was acquitted in the first trial of the unfair merger case between Cheil Industries and Samsung C&T earlier this month, it is understood that they decided not to consider his return as a registered director yet, taking into account the ongoing appeals and other circumstances.
Regarding Chairman Lee's acquittal in the first trial, Chairman Lee of the Compliance Committee said, "A culture of accepting court rulings must be established in our society," adding, "Accepting judges' rulings is the last bastion that allows our society to be maintained, which comes from my decades of experience and judgment as a legal professional." On the possibility of Chairman Lee attending regular meetings in the future, he said, "I think there will be opportunities for meetings and discussions with the Compliance Committee soon, considering various schedules."
Regarding the 'super-company union' formed by four Samsung affiliates, he emphasized, "The Compliance Committee's task is human rights-centered management," and added, "We will continuously monitor whether human rights management is being implemented in various areas such as labor unions, labor-management relations, and inter-union relations." He further stated that labor-management relations "should be a relationship that all citizens can approve of," adding, "There should be some tension, but a sound relationship that reassures the public about the economy must also be maintained."
