'834 Residents Submit Resignation Letters'... Gyeonggi-do Activates Emergency Response Situation Room
Gyeonggi Province has launched an emergency response, including operating an emergency medical response situation room, to minimize medical service gaps caused by the widespread submission of resignation letters by resident doctors.
According to Gyeonggi Province on the 20th, out of a total of 2,337 resident doctors at 40 hospitals in the province, 834 resident doctors from 20 hospitals had submitted their resignation letters as of the 19th.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 20th that it has been operating the emergency medical response situation room since the 7th, following the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s issuance of a health medical disaster crisis alert on the 6th.
Currently, Gyeonggi Province is maintaining an emergency medical system through the Gyeonggi Emergency Medical Council, which includes nine regional emergency medical centers such as Ajou University Hospital and the Fire and Disaster Headquarters, to minimize medical service gaps caused by the collective strike.
The emergency medical response situation room has established a hotline with city and county public health centers to regularly monitor the status of medical institution strikes and the maintenance of the emergency medical system. On the 20th at 5:30 PM, Gyeonggi Province will hold a meeting with deputy heads of cities and counties to focus on discussing countermeasures against the collective strike.
If the collective strike materializes, Gyeonggi Province plans to activate an emergency medical system by extending weekday medical hours and providing nighttime medical services at public medical institutions such as Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center and Seongnam City Medical Center. Additionally, in cooperation with the 119 Situation Room, patients will be dispersed and transported to prevent overcrowding at tertiary general hospitals where resident doctors have gone on strike in emergency situations.
