Yeongam County Folk Ssireum Team Confirmed as National Champions... Coach Kim Ki-tae Awarded Best Coach Award
‘Ssireum-in-ui Bam’ Event Awards 4 Categories Including Best Coach and Player Awards
The Yeongam-gun Folk Ssireum Team won four awards, including the Best Coach Award and Best Player Award in the folk ssireum category, at the ‘Night of Ssireum People’ event hosted by the Korea Ssireum Association (President Hwang Kyung-su) held on the 13th at the Sancheong Sports Center in Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam.
According to Yeongam-gun on the 15th, the event, attended by about 300 ssireum enthusiasts nationwide, was an occasion to look back on ssireum in 2023 and to commend and encourage players who achieved excellent results and officials who contributed to the development and expansion of ssireum.

Yeongam County Folk Ssireum Team is taking a commemorative photo after winning four awards, including the Best Leader Award and Best Player Award in the folk ssireum category, at the 'Night of Ssireum People' event.

At this event, Kim Ki-tae, coach of the Yeongam-gun Folk Ssireum Team, received the Best Coach Award; Kim Min-jae, jangsa, received the Best Player Award; Cha Min-su, jangsa, received the Excellence Player Award in the Halla weight class; and Choi Jeong-man, jangsa, received the Excellence Player Award in the Geumgang weight class. These awards proved that the Yeongam-gun Folk Ssireum Team is the strongest in South Korea, both domestically and internationally recognized.
Led by veteran coach Kim Ki-tae, the 17-member Yeongam-gun Folk Ssireum Team has reached the top 81 times since its founding in 2017, including 65 jangsa titles, 6 gold medals at the National Sports Festival, and 10 team championships.
Furthermore, based on a popular and friendly image, they contribute to regional development through steady promotional activities and social contribution efforts. Recently, thanks to the rising popularity of K-Ssireum and various broadcast appearances, they have gained nationwide love beyond Yeongam-gun.
