AStory Shares Revenue from Distribution and Ancillary Businesses
"A Significant Step in the K-Drama Industry"
ENA drama 'Kidnapping Day' will be remade in the UK. The production company AStory announced on the 15th that it will co-produce the drama with Studio Hamburg UK. Studio Hamburg UK is an overseas subsidiary of Studio Hamburg Production Group, one of the largest media groups in Europe. It gained momentum by producing dramas such as 'The Cleaner' and 'The Heist Before Christmas.'
'Kidnapping Day,' which ended last October, is a comic thriller drama about the special cooperation between a clumsy kidnapper and an eleven-year-old genius girl. It starred Yoon Kye-sang, Park Sung-hoon, Yuna, and Kim Shin-rok. The UK version is currently in the script development stage. The screenplay is being written by Ronan Blaney, an Irish writer who won the short film award at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). His notable works include the films 'Good Woman' and 'Boogaloo and Graham,' as well as the drama 'The Heist Before Christmas.'
AStory will participate in the production locally. Lee Sang-baek, CEO of AStory, said, "We hope to collaborate with more global production teams based on the experience and knowledge gained through this co-production." Michael Lehmann, CEO of Studio Hamburg Production Group, also expressed confidence, saying, "'Kidnapping Day' has all the elements to achieve international success and will further elevate our status as a global drama production company."

The co-production was not simply a sale of remake rights. The contract clearly states that all profits from distribution and ancillary businesses will be shared. CEO Lee said, "This is a significant event in the K-drama industry. We will continue to seek opportunities to expand the company's scale and profitability beyond the stagnant domestic market."
