All Seats Sold Out Within 10 Minutes of Ticket Sales, Cultural Performance Series Continues This Year
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) will present the first cultural gift of the new year to its residents with the "2024 Songpa New Year Concert," which captures the fantasy of spring in a variety of musical melodies, on February 21 at 5 p.m. at the Lotte Concert Hall.
The district has been continuing the "Cultural Performance Planning Series" in collaboration with the Songpa Cultural Foundation since last year to allow all residents to easily enjoy high-quality cultural performances in their daily lives. From February to December, a total of 10 performances across various genres such as theater, opera, musicals, ballet, and traditional Korean music were offered free of charge.
Last year, 5,747 residents attended the performances, with every seat sold out for each show, demonstrating great enthusiasm. In fact, a survey of attendees showed that 94% responded that they were "very satisfied."
In response, the district has prepared even more diverse and abundant cultural and artistic performances this year.
The first stage, the "2024 Songpa New Year Concert," will feature over 80 musicians from both Eastern and Western traditions, presenting familiar pieces that evoke the spirit of spring.
In the first part, the Songpa-gu Symphony Orchestra will perform alongside violinist Choi Soo-kyung, soprano Jung Sung-mi, and tenor Noh Kyung-beom, delivering a bright and lively performance with pieces such as Vivaldi's "Spring" from The Four Seasons, Tchaikovsky's "Slavonic March," and famous movie soundtrack selections.
The second part will showcase a special performance centered on pianist Yang Bang-eon, featuring a collaboration of piano, taepyeongso (Korean traditional wind instrument), band, and other Eastern and Western instruments, blending various genres. Yang Bang-eon is a world-renowned composer who served as the music director for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and the closing ceremony of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. In this concert, he will perform his own compositions, including the official theme song of the 2002 Busan Asian Games and "Jeongseon Arirang."
This New Year Concert has attracted significant interest from residents, with all tickets sold out within 10 minutes of the February 6 ticket release.
To meet the high cultural demand of residents, the district will also hold cultural performances at the Lotte Concert Hall in May, August, and December.
