Yang Jeongsuk Joins Reform New Party... Secures 600 Million Won in Party Subsidies
Active Lawmakers Increase to a Total of 5 Members
Independent lawmaker Yang Jeongsuk joins the Reform New Party.
According to the Reform New Party on the 14th, Representative Yang submitted her party membership application that afternoon.
Yang was elected as a proportional representation candidate for the Democratic Citizens Party, a satellite party of the Democratic Party of Korea, in the last general election but was expelled from the Citizens Party due to controversies including real estate issues.
Subsequently, the Supreme Court confirmed her acquittal on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act in November 2022, and she has maintained her seat to date.
With Yang’s recruitment, the Reform New Party now holds five incumbent lawmakers. It is also expected to receive around 600 million won in operating subsidies for the first quarter of this year.
According to the Public Official Election Act, a party that gains more than 2% of the vote in the 21st general election or holds five incumbent lawmakers is eligible for operating subsidies under election law standards. The Reform New Party met this criterion as of the day before the deadline.
