Prosecution Charges Kim Hye-kyung for Providing 100,000 Won Meal... Violation of Public Official Election Act

View original imageThe Suwon District Prosecutors' Office Public Investigation Division (Chief Prosecutor Kim Dong-hee) announced on the 14th that Kim was indicted without detention on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act (donation act).
Kim is accused of violating the Public Official Election Act by providing a meal worth approximately 100,000 won in total on August 2, 2021, at a restaurant in Seoul to three party-related personnel, her driver, and lawyer, following Lee's declaration to run in the party's presidential primary.
Kim's statute of limitations for the Public Official Election Act was suspended when Bae Mo, a former Grade 5 special appointment official at Gyeonggi Provincial Government classified as an accomplice and co-conspirator, was brought to trial on September 8, 2022, one day before the expiration of the statute of limitations. According to the Criminal Procedure Act, when one accomplice is prosecuted, the statute of limitations for other accomplices can be suspended until the trial of the prosecuted accomplice is finalized. On that day, Bae was sentenced to 10 months in prison with a 2-year probation in the appellate court.

The prosecution is continuing its investigation into allegations of Kim's misuse of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government corporate card. Earlier, the police transferred the case to the prosecution with a recommendation for indictment, concluding that Kim had privately misused the corporate card. The amount of corporate card misuse revealed through the police investigation is approximately 20 million won.
