Gangbuk-gu Operates 'Uri-dongne Pet Care Center' to Support Companion Animal Care
Care for Basic Livelihood Security Recipients, Low-Income Families, and Single-Parent Families: Up to 10 Days per Pet, Up to 20 Days for Long-Term Hospitalization
Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) operates the ‘Our Neighborhood Pet Boarding Service’ that cares for pets for up to 20 days for socially vulnerable groups.
‘Our Neighborhood Pet Boarding Service’ is a program that supports the boarding costs for companion dogs and cats, targeting socially vulnerable groups such as basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income households, and single-parent families.
The support cost is 50,000 KRW per day for companion cats, and 30,000 to 50,000 KRW per day for companion dogs (▲under 4kg: 30,000 KRW ▲4 to under 20kg: 40,000 KRW ▲20kg or more: 50,000 KRW). The boarding period is up to 10 days per pet, but can be extended up to 20 days if long-term hospitalization is required.
This year, the designated location for Our Neighborhood Pet Boarding Service is a dog cafe located in Suyu 2-dong (Kkotboda Gae, 1103 Hancheon-ro, Gangbuk-gu, 2nd floor). Residents wishing to use the service must submit the Our Neighborhood Pet Boarding Service application form, a copy of their ID, a copy of the animal registration certificate, and proof of social vulnerability to the Gangbuk-gu Pet Boarding Service or the Gangbuk-gu Regional Economy Division (1035 Hancheon-ro, 7th floor, Gangbuk-gu). However, companion dogs must be registered, and any costs exceeding the support period must be borne by the owner.

Mayor Lee Soon-hee of Gangbuk-gu said, “Through this program, I hope to alleviate the economic burden of vulnerable groups living with companion animals even a little,” and added, “In the era of 10 million pet owners, we will take the lead in creating a pet culture where both pet owners and non-pet owners are respected.”
