Even a Small Spark Demands Vigilance... Mapo-gu Implements Comprehensive Wildfire Prevention Measures
Operation of the Wildfire Prevention Headquarters from February 1 to May 15
Formation of a firefighting team of 270 Mapo-gu officials for early wildfire suppression
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) announced that it has set the "Forest Fire Caution Period" from February 1 to May 15, the season when the risk of forest fires increases in spring, and established a Forest Fire Prevention Headquarters to enter a full-scale forest fire prevention system.
During the spring months of March and April, the weather is often clear and dry, increasing the risk of forest fires, so more active forest fire prevention activities are necessary than usual.
Although there have been no forest fires in Mapo-gu in the past 10 years, most of the forests in Mapo-gu, such as Sangamsan and Maebongsan, are adjacent to residential areas, requiring special caution.
Accordingly, Mapo-gu plans to prevent forest fires through thorough and meticulous preemptive prevention activities.
Led by Mayor Park Gang-su, the Forest Fire Prevention Headquarters organized a firefighting team of 270 public officials to quickly extinguish forest fires and safely evacuate residents, and established cooperation with related local agencies such as fire stations, military units, and police stations through the "Safe Mapo Hotline."
During the forest fire caution period, Mapo-gu will install forest fire prevention banners at the entrances of major hiking trails and conduct forest fire prevention campaigns. In addition, it will collect flammable materials and crack down on smoking and cooking activities through patrols at least once a week to prevent forest fires in advance.
Furthermore, Mapo-gu regularly inspects the equipment of 12 forest fire extinguishing storage boxes installed for rapid response in case of forest fires, and plans to install an additional storage box at the summit of Maebongsan in February to fully concentrate on forest fire prevention.

Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo-gu said, "In dry weather, a small spark can lead to a large fire, so active interest from residents in forest fire prevention is necessary," and added, "To protect precious forests and ensure the safety of residents, Mapo-gu will do its best to prevent forest fires."
