On the 12th (local time), three days before the start of the PGA Tour Genesis Invitational (total prize money $20 million), he announced, "I will wear the golf clothing 'Sunday Red' (SDR), which TaylorMade will release to the market, starting from this tournament." The Genesis Invitational is Woods' first PGA Tour regular event appearance in 10 months since he withdrew midway through the Masters last April.
Woods ended his 27-year contract with Nike Golf apparel, which he had worn since his professional debut, at the end of last year. 'Sunday Red' is a brand inspired by the red shirt Woods always wore on Sundays, the final round of tournaments. He wore the red shirt on the final day following advice from his mother, Kultida. Since then, he achieved outstanding results, giving rise to the phrase "the fear of the red shirt." The logo also features a tiger figure reminiscent of Woods' name, Tiger.
Although Woods often wore Nike's 'TW' line, which uses the initials of his first and last name, during his Nike Golf days, the overwhelming brand power of Nike limited the development of a separate brand. This time, Woods has partnered with TaylorMade, which had not been very prominent in the apparel sector, to launch his own brand.
