Sunchang-gun Conducts Crackdown on Illegal Overnight Parking of Freight Trucks

On the 13th, Sunchang-gun, Jeonbuk Province announced plans to conduct a focused crackdown on overnight parking outside designated parking lots for freight vehicles.

Commercial vehicles are required by relevant laws to park in registered parking lots, but illegal overnight parking of freight vehicles has caused inconvenience to residents, including traffic obstruction and increased risk of traffic accidents involving pedestrians and vehicles.

The county hopes that many owners of commercial freight vehicles will use the recently completed "Public Freight Vehicle Parking Lot (former Sunchang IC)," which is available free of charge. After conducting prior publicity and guidance within this month, a focused crackdown will be implemented starting next month.

The crackdown targets commercial freight vehicles parked for more than one hour between midnight and 4 a.m. in densely populated residential areas, high-risk traffic accident zones, and areas with frequent complaints.

The county will continuously enforce regulations in apartment complexes, residential backstreets, schools, and high-risk traffic accident areas where habitual overnight parking occurs, and will also crack down without exception on vehicles parking in areas avoiding habitual zones.

Freight vehicles caught violating the regulations will face administrative penalties, including suspension of operation for 3 to 5 days or fines ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 KRW, in accordance with relevant laws.

A county official stated, “Although commercial vehicles must be parked in designated parking lots, illegal parking in residential areas and along main roads exposes residents to inconvenience and safety hazards. We urge owners of commercial freight vehicles and related parties to park in registered parking lots or the public freight vehicle parking lot.”
