Regional Talent Increases Up to 2,018 People
As the government plans to increase the number of medical school admissions by 2,000 starting from the 2025 academic year, the admissions industry expects the number of regional talent selections to more than double compared to the current figures.
According to data analyzed by Jongno Academy on the 7th, if the selection rate for the Regional Talent Special Admission is expanded to 60%, the number of Regional Talent Special Admissions is predicted to increase from 1,068 to a maximum of 2,018.
Jongno Academy explained, "The number of medical school Regional Talent Special Admissions will increase by 146 from the current 1,068, and approximately 804 additional admissions are expected due to the expansion of the recruitment quota."
Currently, for the 2025 academic year, 1,068 students, which is 52.8% of the total recruitment quota of 2,023 across 27 regional medical schools, are selected through regional talent recruitment. In this regard, the government announced the scale of medical school expansion yesterday and revealed plans to raise the Regional Talent Special Admission rate to over 60% of incoming students. However, the specific recruitment quotas by university and region have not yet been finalized.
After the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) ended, admissions companies have been holding a series of admissions briefings. On the 17th, families of examinees attending the "2024 CSAT Results and Regular Admission Score Prediction Briefing" held at Daeyang Hall, Sejong University, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, were looking at admissions materials. Lim Seong-ho, CEO of Jongno Academy, stated, "There is a high possibility that the entire increased quota will be heavily concentrated in regional areas," adding, "Currently, only the simple scale has been announced, so it is necessary to prepare detailed scales and administrative support systems."
