Seongdong-gu Continues Sharing Household Items for Lunar New Year Visiting Neighbor Love Campaign
Community Centers, Religious Institutions, and Organizations Distribute Lunar New Year Donation Items at Key Locations
Sharing Campaign Aims to Support Neighbors in Need and Promote a Culture of Giving in the Community
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) announced plans to carry out the ‘Seol Holiday Visiting Neighborly Love Daily Necessities Sharing’ event until February 16, which collects daily necessities and food items to donate to neighbors in need so that no one is left out during the warm Seol holiday.
The ‘Seol Holiday Visiting Neighborly Love Daily Necessities Sharing’ event aims to care for vulnerable neighbors in the community during the holiday and to promote a culture of donation and sharing in the region. Not only public institutions but also private organizations, groups, and religious institutions participate as base institutions. Donation boxes are installed at these base institutions to collect food items such as rice, ramen, canned goods, and daily necessities like soap, detergent, and toothpaste from residents. The collected items will be distributed to vulnerable groups within the district around the holiday period to ensure they have a warm holiday.
The base institutions participating in this event include 15 locations such as Seongdong-gu Urban Management Corporation, Seongdong Cultural Foundation, Kkotjae Church, Yongdap-dong Community Security Council, Yongdap-dong Resident Center, Majang-dong Resident Center, Haengdang 2-dong Resident Center, and Eungbong-dong Resident Center. Donation activities are conducted in various ways depending on the characteristics of each base institution.
The Seongdong-gu Urban Management Corporation has installed donation boxes at six locations including the Community Sports Center, and the Seongdong Cultural Foundation has set up donation boxes at three public libraries to collect food items. Additionally, Kkotjae Church plans to participate in sharing by donating 300 food kits including Seol holiday rice cake soup, and the Yongdap-dong Community Security Council will donate 50 sets of daily necessities kits.
Residents who participated in the donation expressed that although they usually had the intention to donate, it was difficult to do so easily, but through this event, they felt proud to be able to participate in donations conveniently nearby and expressed their desire to continue practicing sharing in the future.
Furthermore, Chae Gwi-nam, director of the Seongdong Hope Food Sharing Center, which is co-organizing the event, stated that they will make efforts to deliver the donated food and daily necessities received through the base institutions to those in need so that they can be a source of strength for vulnerable neighbors.
Seongdong-gu plans to continuously promote the Visiting Neighborly Love Daily Necessities Sharing event quarterly during Family Month, Chuseok, year-end and New Year holidays to help spread the culture of sharing.
