President Yoon Suk-yeol emphasized on the 6th that "the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism should consider itself as the 'Ministry of Cultural Industry' and carry out its work with a clear goal of creating new jobs."
On the same day, President Yoon received a report on the '2024 Major Policy Implementation Plan' from Minister Yoo In-chon of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stating, "The ministry is responsible for culture, arts, sports, and tourism, and ultimately, based on these, it should generate revenue and economic value and advance into the global market."
President Yoon said, "The most important thing to attract foreign tourists is to have sufficient infrastructure such as adequate accommodation facilities to accommodate them," and urged, "Rather than focusing on the number of inbound visitors, please strive to develop tourism that encourages higher spending."
He continued, "To ensure the success of Neulbom School, various cultural and artistic programs should be expanded," and requested, "The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism should take the lead in this."
On the same day, Minister Yoo presented support measures to enable K-content to become a global market leader. He announced plans to newly establish a private-sector-centered 'K-Content Strategic Fund' worth 600 billion KRW, conditional on securing intellectual property rights (IP), and to inject a total of 1.74 trillion KRW in policy finance, strengthening support for core content such as games, movies, comics, and webtoons.
Minister Yoo also revealed plans to utilize this year's Paris Olympics as an opportunity to intensively promote Korean culture. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism aims to achieve 20 million inbound tourists this year by integrating cultural arts, sports, and tourism resources to create global festivals and tourism branding.
