The Charm and Excitement of Traditional Music at Seokjojeon: 'Deoksugung Night Performance'

'Deoksugung Night Banquet,' where various traditional music performances themed on Pungnyu (風流) can be enjoyed at Deoksugung Seokjojeon, a place where one can feel the history of the Korean Empire's royal family, will be held at 7 p.m. on the 21st-22nd and 28th-29th, the National Gugak Center and Deoksugung Management Office announced on the 6th.
The National Gugak Center stated that audiences can appreciate elegant performances of Jeongak, folk music, and creative gugak harmonizing with the scenery of sprouting buds, awaiting the spring of Deoksugung.
The first stage will be presented by the National Gugak Center Jeongakdan. They will perform 'Suryong-eum,' meaning the song of a dragon playing in the water, and the sijo 'Sewori,' joyfully welcoming the new spring. Next, the National Gugak Center Minsokakdan will appear. Following the Daegum Sanjo, which fully showcases the clear and elegant sound of the daegum, they will present the gayageum byeongchang 'Chunhyangga Jung Sarangga,' where Im Mongryong and Seong Chunhyang sing of their eternal love for each other.
The final stage will be decorated by the National Gugak Center Creative Orchestra. They will perform 'Ilchul,' expressing the majestic sunrise over the East Sea with the geomungo, and 'Sounds Opening Spring, Arirang,' capturing the diverse scenes of spring.
The National Gugak Center plans to expand opportunities to enjoy gugak in daily life by holding about 40 performances annually in regional cultural spaces such as palaces and seowon, starting with Deoksugung Night Banquet.

Reservations for Deoksugung Night Banquet will be available from 2 p.m. on the 7th via the National Gugak Center website and by phone. Attendance is limited to the first 60 people. While the performance is free of charge, a separate admission fee for Deoksugung must be paid.
