Fire Agency Activates 'Joint Accident Investigation Team' for Fallen Firefighter in Gyeongbuk Factory Fire
The fire authorities will activate a joint accident investigation team to determine the cause of the factory fire in Mungyeong, Gyeongbuk, in which two firefighters died in the line of duty.
On the 5th, the National Fire Agency announced that it will operate the accident investigation team starting from that day regarding the incident in which two fire officers died while responding to the frozen food factory fire in Mungyeong, Gyeongbuk, which occurred on the 31st of last month.
The National Fire Agency joint investigation team will operate for the next 30 days. They plan to review the entire response activities from the initial situation response to fire suppression and rescue operations, the on-site command process, safety management issues, and structural and fire-resistance problems of sandwich panels, aiming to establish measures to prevent recurrence in the future.
The head of the investigation team will be the Planning and Coordination Officer of the National Fire Agency. The team will be composed of two divisions: the Safety Management Investigation Division and the Fire Investigation Division, with participation from civilian experts, the Firefighters' Union, and the Fire Officers' Workplace Union.
The investigation team will consist of about 25 members, including civilian experts. Members include professors of fire protection and disaster prevention, experts in architectural fire resistance and structure, fire technology specialists, representatives recommended by the National Firefighters' Labor Union and the Fire Officers' Workplace Union, as well as officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the National Fire Agency.

The National Fire Agency plans to focus on improving on-site response, education, and training. Starting with the first on-site inspection and general meeting on the 6th, they will conduct data collection and accident analysis, undertaking a precise and detailed investigation.
