Gyeonggi-do Operates Three 'Community Transition Facilities' for Mental Illness Patients... 91% Return Rate Last Year
The rate of return for residents of community transition facilities operated by Gyeonggi Province to support the social and family reintegration of individuals with mental illnesses has been reported to exceed 90%.
On the 5th, Gyeonggi Province announced that three community transition facilities, which assist the stable social reintegration of people with mental illnesses, achieved a community return rate (the percentage of facility discharges returning to the community rather than treatment institutions) of 91% over the past year.
Since 2018, Gyeonggi Province has been operating community transition facilities in Suwon, Gimpo, and Pocheon.
These facilities provide 24-hour protection and rehabilitation programs for up to six months to individuals discharged from psychiatric medical institutions or those struggling to live in the community due to mental illness. The total capacity of the three facilities is 66 people.
Last year, a total of 156 people were discharged from the three facilities. Among them, 91.6% (143 people) returned to the community, including their homes and general living facilities. The remaining 13 were admitted to psychiatric medical institutions or psychiatric nursing facilities.
During their stay at the community transition facilities, mental health professionals closely monitor the condition of residents to provide customized rehabilitation services, and after discharge, they offer follow-up care for three months to support stable reintegration into the community.
Admissions to the facilities can be referred by workers at psychiatric medical institutions, psychiatric nursing facilities, and others through the community transition facility website (http://www.halfway.or.kr/).
Individuals with mental illnesses and their families can inquire at the facilities (Suwon Uri Maeul 031-273-0224, Gimpo Baramsup 031-989-5556, Pocheon Raon 031-542-9500) for guidance.
