Biden: "Retaliatory Attacks for US Military Deaths Will Continue at Chosen Time and Place"
Statement says "Do not want conflict but will retaliate if Americans are harmed"
U.S. President Joe Biden stated on the 2nd (local time) regarding the start of the U.S. military's retaliatory strikes following the deaths of three U.S. troops stationed in the Middle East, "The retaliation will continue at the time and place we choose."
In a statement released that day, President Biden said, "Our counterattack has begun today." He warned, "The United States does not seek armed conflict anywhere in the Middle East or the world, but we want to make it clear to anyone who might try to harm us, 'If you harm Americans, we will retaliate.'"
U.S. Central Command officially confirmed that it launched retaliatory strikes on the same day in response to the attack on the U.S. military base in Jordan that resulted in the deaths of three U.S. troops. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the command said, "At 4 p.m. Eastern Time, we conducted airstrikes in Iraq and Syria against the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force and affiliated militias."
