Hong Nampyo, Changwon Special City Mayor, Proposes Cooperation for Creating a Digital Masan Free Trade Zone in the Marine New City
Request for Cooperation on Establishing Business Attraction Strategies and Operational Plans at Gyeongnam Mayors and County Governors Policy Meeting
Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, attended the 2024 1st Gyeongsangnam-do Mayors and County Governors Policy Meeting held at the provincial government office on the 1st, hosted by the Governor of Gyeongsangnam-do, and requested cooperation for establishing an operational plan and attracting resident companies for the "Creation of the Marine New City Digital Free Trade Zone."
The Digital Masan Free Trade Zone, to be established in Masan Marine New City, plans to operate with a focus on knowledge-based, information and communication companies, and advanced manufacturing industries, differentiated from the existing Masan Free Trade Zone, with a total project cost of 386 billion KRW.
Newly designated as a free trade zone by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on January 25, the Digital Masan Free Trade Zone is located within a 1 km radius of Masan Port and within 5 km of Changwon National Industrial Complex and the existing Masan Free Trade Zone, expecting synergistic effects with surrounding facilities, industrial complexes, and free trade zones.

Mayor Hong said, “The Digital Masan Free Trade Zone is a new growth engine that will lead Changwon’s next 50 years,” adding, “Gyeongnam Province and Changwon City will cooperate on the upcoming operational plans and company attraction efforts to establish a definite development plan that citizens can feel.”
