Baek Jong-han, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Calls for Detailed Policy Development to Overcome Low Birthrate
Baek Jong-han, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, delivered a 5-minute free speech at the 2nd plenary session of the 318th extraordinary meeting to propose the establishment of birth promotion policies at the district level.
According to Seo-gu Council on the 1st, Councilor Baek stated in his 5-minute free speech, "Young people are concentrated in metropolitan areas and are facing delays in marriage and giving up on childbirth," adding, "To address the causes of low birth rates scattered socially, economically, and personally, it is necessary to improve negative perceptions of childbirth and childcare burdens through practical support."
He continued, "Low birth rate policies vary greatly by region depending on the financial conditions of each local government and the will of the heads of the organizations," and said, "Efforts should be made to establish and support feasible policies at the Seo-gu level."
Councilor Baek said, "Immigration policy is mentioned as one way to overcome low birth rates. However, even in multicultural families, there is a trend of declining birth rates," and urged, "I hope Seo-gu Office will work hard to establish a system that guarantees the rights and welfare of immigrants, thereby solving the problems of immigrants in the local community and preparing measures to overcome low birth rates."
