Exploring Economic Exchange Plans Between the Two Cities
Considering Integration of Snow Festival with ‘Daejeon 0 O'clock Festival’
Daejeon City is organizing an economic and cultural delegation to visit its sister city, Sapporo, Japan, to expand practical economic and cultural exchanges between the two cities.
Daejeon City announced on the 1st that the economic and cultural delegation will visit Sapporo from the 2nd to the 5th. The visit was arranged at the request of Mayor Akimoto Katsuhiro, who attended the opening ceremony of the ‘Daejeon 0 o’clock Festival’ last August. Mayor Lee Jang-woo of Daejeon and the economic and cultural delegation are scheduled to attend the Sapporo Snow Festival and the International Arts Festival during their visit.
In particular, this visit includes a performance by the Daejeon City Dance Company to introduce traditional culture of Daejeon and South Korea to the local residents of Sapporo. It also provides an opportunity to explore economic exchange plans between the two cities, centered on the economic delegation, aligning with the practical exchange nature pursued by the 8th elected administration between sister cities.
On the 2nd, Mayor Lee and the economic and cultural delegation will have a meeting with the Mayor of Sapporo as their first schedule, engage in discussions to strengthen economic and cultural exchanges, and then move to the Sapporo Factory performance hall to watch a traditional dance performance by the Daejeon City Dance Company.
On the 3rd, they will inspect resources linked to the Snow Festival held in the city center, including the Sapporo Olympic Museum and the Sapporo International Arts Festival. They will also attend the pre-opening reception of the Snow Festival with Lee Sang-rae, Chairman of the Daejeon City Council, and interact with international dignitaries.
On the 4th, they will attend the opening ceremony of the 74th Sapporo Snow Festival, one of the world’s top three festivals, tour the festival site, and encourage local artists participating as Korean representatives in the international snow sculpture competition.
During the Snow Festival visit, Mayor Lee plans to directly observe the festival site setup and entertainment elements to devise ways to incorporate them into this year’s ‘Daejeon 0 o’clock Festival.’
