A 24-Year-Old Youth Living in Seongnam and Uijeongbu Will Not Receive 1 Million Won Youth Basic Income
Gyeonggi Province will provide an annual 'Youth Basic Income' of 1 million KRW to 24-year-old youths in the province again this year, following last year. However, Seongnam City and Uijeongbu City have decided not to implement this program, so youths in these areas will not receive the Youth Basic Income.
The Youth Basic Income program targets 24-year-old youths who are registered residents of Gyeonggi Province as of the quarterly application date and have continuously lived in the province for more than 3 years or have lived a total of more than 10 years. Regardless of employment status, graduation status, income, or assets, 250,000 KRW is paid quarterly in local currency for each city or county.
During the period when the applicant is 24 years old, retroactive applications are possible for unpaid amounts from previous quarters if the application period was missed. The youth themselves can apply online quarterly through the Gyeonggi Job Foundation integrated application system.
If the applicant is unable to apply personally due to unavoidable circumstances, proxy applications by parents or others are also allowed.
The quarterly application periods are: 1st quarter in February to March, 2nd quarter in May to June, 3rd quarter in August to September, and 4th quarter in October to November.
However, Seongnam City, which abolished the Youth Basic Income payment ordinance in July last year, and Uijeongbu City, which could not allocate city funds in this year's main budget due to financial difficulties, will not provide Youth Basic Income to local youths.
