Over 40 Years Old Gyeongnam Police Agency Main Building Reconstruction Begins... Kickoff Meeting Next Month
The main building of the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency will be newly constructed after about 40 years since its completion.
The provincial police agency announced on the 31st that it recently signed a design contract for the reconstruction of the main building and has begun full-scale construction.
According to the provincial police agency, the new main building will be built on the site of the current main building, which will be demolished, with a total project cost of 42.6 billion KRW. It will cover a total area of 13,542㎡, consisting of one basement floor and five above-ground floors, with a size of approximately 4,104 pyeong.

In December last year, the provincial police agency held a design proposal competition hosted by the Public Procurement Service, selected an architectural firm, and signed a contract this month. A kickoff meeting is scheduled for February.
The new main building is planned to be a comfortable space for both visitors and internal staff.
For efficient work processing, each office will be arranged by function, and convenience facilities including a one-stop integrated civil service office will be installed to ensure that all visitors, including the disabled, elderly, and pregnant women, face no inconvenience.
Completed in 1983, the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency building has consistently faced concerns over safety due to aging and issues with insufficient workspace.
In a safety inspection conducted in 2013, the main building received a D grade, indicating defects that required urgent repairs and reinforcement.
Due to the deterioration of insulation functions caused by aging, energy consumption increased, and since 2019, the building has been designated as a public building for performance improvement.
Although the Jeongbyeonggwan building, with two basement floors and five above-ground floors, was newly constructed behind the main building in December 2021, the need for expansion has increased due to the growth of equipment, lack of space for storing and managing case records, and rising security demands.
