Doosan Enerbility "First Domestic 'Changwon Liquefied Hydrogen Plant' Completed... Thanks for Support"
Completed in August last year and under trial operation
Annual production of 1,800 tons of liquefied hydrogen
Development of 400MW-class hydrogen combustion turbine by 2027
Completing the hydrogen value chain from production to utilization
Doosan Enerbility announced on the 31st that it participated in the completion ceremony of the 'Changwon Liquefied Hydrogen Plant' held at its headquarters in Changwon, Gyeongnam.
Doosan Enerbility was in charge of the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) of this plant and has been conducting commissioning since its completion in August last year. It is scheduled to operate and maintain (O&M) the plant for the next 30 years.
This plant can produce 5 tons of liquefied hydrogen per day, approximately 1,800 tons annually. Liquefied hydrogen is produced by reforming natural gas to generate high-purity gaseous hydrogen, followed by the core process of liquefaction through cold box equipment. Hydrogen liquefied at an ultra-low temperature of -253°C reduces its volume to 1/800 compared to gaseous hydrogen, making storage and transportation easier.
Lee Hyun-ho, BG Head of Doosan Enerbility, said, "We appreciate the efforts and support of Changwon Special City for the successful completion of the nation's first liquefied hydrogen plant," adding, "We will do our best to develop hydrogen-related technologies and expand production capacity for this carbon-free energy source."

Along with the completion ceremony, several business agreements were signed to expand liquefied hydrogen charging stations and bus supply. Gyeongsangnam-do and Changwon Special City will provide administrative support for the establishment of liquefied hydrogen charging stations, while local companies and transportation and travel agencies will promote the introduction of hydrogen buses for employee commuting and city buses. HiChangwon Co., Ltd., a liquefied hydrogen supplier, signed purchase agreements with 20 liquefied hydrogen supply companies.
Doosan Enerbility is completing the hydrogen business value chain from hydrogen production to utilization. It participated in a national project for a green hydrogen production plant linked with wind power in Jeju, which entered commercial operation last year, and is striving to develop a 400MW-class ultra-large hydrogen power turbine by 2027.
