Jeongeup-si, Application for 'Non-Rice Crop Production Incentive' Open Until May 31
Jeongeup City in Jeollabuk-do is providing incentives for non-rice crop production to address the issue of rice oversupply and to support farmers' income.
The city announced on the 31st that it is accepting applications for the "2024 Non-Rice Crop Production Incentive Program" until May 31.
Eligible applicants are farmers who have cultivated non-rice crops instead of rice on paddy fields where rice was grown at least once between 2017 and 2023, or those who received the "Non-Rice Crop Cultivation Support Fund" between 2018 and 2023.
Farmers wishing to apply can visit the administrative welfare centers in their farmland's town, township, or neighborhood from June 1 to May 31.
The minimum application area per farm is 1,000㎡, and the support rate is 2 million KRW per hectare for general crops, green manure crops, and fallow land, and 1 million KRW per hectare for summer forage crops.
However, soybeans and rice flour supported under the "Strategic Crop Direct Payment System," as well as cabbage, chili peppers, green onions, garlic, onions, potatoes, radishes, sweet potatoes, and ginger supported under the "Major Agricultural Products Price Stabilization Support Project," are excluded from the eligible crops.
A city official said, "We ask for great interest in this project to prevent rice oversupply and ensure appropriate rice prices through non-rice crop cultivation," adding, "We hope that all interested farmers apply within the deadline to avoid missing out."
