Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) is operating a ‘Visiting Customized Laundry Service’ for households of people with disabilities and elderly living alone.
This service is a one-stop support project that collects, launders, and delivers large laundry items such as bedding for people with physical and mental disabilities and elderly living alone who have difficulties with household chores.
Last year, to reduce usage disparities by neighborhood and provide services to more residents, the district expanded the project from the laundry room previously operated in Suyu-dong to all 13 neighborhoods through agreements with local laundromats. As a result, the number of service uses increased about 2.9 times from 1,659 cases in 2022 to 4,859 cases in 2023.
Furthermore, starting this year, the monthly usage frequency has been changed from 5 times to 3 times per month. This is to provide laundry services to more people with disabilities and elderly living alone, and the district expects that the number of service beneficiaries could increase up to 800.
People with disabilities and elderly living alone who wish to use the laundry service can inquire at the community service center where they are registered.
