Gyeonggi Province announced on the 31st that it will conduct a joint crackdown on illegal seafood distribution targeting five coastal cities and counties, including Hwaseong and Ansan, from the 1st to the 8th of next month, as seafood consumption increases during the Lunar New Year.
The main crackdown areas include major ports and harbors within the province, fishing vessels entering and leaving these ports, and seafood direct sales markets.
The crackdown targets include illegal storage and loading of fishing gear, illegal seafood harvesting, illegal distribution of caught seafood, and violations related to the origin of seafood.
Along with this, Gyeonggi Province will also carry out promotional activities aimed at fishermen and seafood distributors to eradicate illegal fishing and distribution of seafood.
Gyeonggi Province will punish detected illegal activities according to relevant laws and proceed with administrative measures such as cancellation or suspension of fishing permits.
Kim Bong-hyun, Director of the Marine Fisheries Division of Gyeonggi Province, emphasized, "We will continue to carry out guidance and inspection activities to prevent illegal fishing and distribution of caught seafood so that a sound seafood distribution culture can be established."
