Korea Airports Corporation Holds Meeting with Experts from Various Fields
Korea Airports Corporation gathered experts from various fields including avian ecology, artificial intelligence (AI), radar technology, and airport field personnel to discuss aircraft safety measures.
On the 30th, Korea Airports Corporation announced that it held a working group meeting composed of academic and industry experts at its headquarters in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, the previous day to strengthen bird strike prevention activities. This was in response to the increase in bird strike incidents from 91 cases in 2019 to 130 cases last year across 14 airports nationwide, excluding Incheon Airport, aiming to prepare countermeasures accordingly.
During the meeting, focused discussions were held on ▲strengthening analysis of bird ecosystems around airports due to climate change and other factors ▲collecting and analyzing big data on bird movement patterns using radar detection ▲establishing AI-based bird movement prediction models ▲applicable bird prevention activity measures by specialized fields.
Regarding groundbreaking preventive measures utilizing advanced technologies such as accumulating big data on bird activity and establishing bird movement prediction models around airports, it was decided to materialize these through regular meetings of the expert working group.
