Seongnam City Offers Free Access to Public Parking Lots and School Playgrounds During Lunar New Year Holiday
Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province will open 116 public parking lots free of charge 24 hours a day for four days from February 9 to 12 to facilitate parking for visitors returning to their hometowns during the Lunar New Year holiday. In addition, with the cooperation of local school principals, 38 school playgrounds in the area will be used as temporary parking lots.
On the 30th, Seongnam City announced that it will open a total of 10,776 parking spaces, including 7,624 spaces in 116 public parking lots in residential areas such as Taepyeong Public Parking Lot and Geumgwang Public Parking Lot, and 3,152 spaces in 38 school playgrounds during the Lunar New Year holiday period.
However, subway transfer public parking lots will operate as paid parking as usual. The free parking lots include 39 off-street parking lots and 77 on-street parking lots.
Every year during the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays, Seongnam City opens public parking lots and playgrounds of elementary, middle, high schools, and universities free of charge to secure sufficient parking spaces.
The schools opening their playgrounds are 18 schools (918 spaces) including Jungbu Elementary School and Seongnam Techno Science High School in Jungwon-gu, and 20 schools (2,234 spaces) including Seongnam Elementary School and Dong Seoul University in Sujeong-gu. Citizens using school parking lots must move their vehicles parked before 6 p.m. on the last day of the holiday, February 12.

A Seongnam City official said, "We will do our best to support citizens and visitors to Seongnam City so that they do not experience parking difficulties during the holiday season," and added, "We will also do our best to maintain and manage facilities so that parking lots can be used safely and comfortably."
