Park Gyuntaek's 7th Pledge: Amendment of 'Gwangju Military Airport Special Act' to 'Gwangju-Jeonnam Integrated Relocation Act'
"Simultaneous Relocation of Military and Civil Airports Specified... Must Alleviate Concerns of Muan Residents"
Promise to Secure National Funding at the Level of Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated Airport Relocation Special Act
Park Gyuntaek, the Democratic Party preliminary candidate for Gwangsan-gu (Gap), Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced the 7th general election policy pledge, "Revision of the Gwangju Military Airport Relocation Special Act to the Gwangju-Jeonnam Integrated Airport Relocation Act."
On the 29th, Candidate Park announced the pledge at the Jinsim Camp election office, attended by Kim Junhaeng, Chief Special Committee Chairman for Military Airport Relocation Policy, Cha Joomyeon, Special Committee Chairman for Military Airport Relocation Policy, and others.
Candidate Park stated, "Because the existing political circles have taken an ambiguous stance on the 'simultaneous relocation of civilian airports,' the enactment of the Gwangju Military Airport Relocation Special Act was also inadequately carried out, which was one of the reasons why Jeonnam Province (Muan County) did not accept the relocation," and pointed out, "The Gwangju Military Airport Relocation Special Act only relocates the military airport and does not include provisions for incentives such as airport development subsidies and relocation support measures provided by the state when relocating civilian airports."
He continued, "The half-hearted Gwangju Military Airport Relocation Special Act should be revised to the 'Gwangju-Jeonnam Integrated Airport Relocation Act' to specify the simultaneous relocation of military and civilian airports," and promised, "We will change the main ministry in charge of the relocation project to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport so that we can receive national subsidies, relocation livelihood support, special support for relocation settlement and living safety, exemption from preliminary feasibility studies, and other support at the level of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport Relocation Special Act."

He also stated, "Even if the decision to relocate the military airport is made, the noise damage must be endured for more than 10 years until the relocation is completed," and added, "Since the noise is severe due to the high-level Air Force pilot training currently conducted at the Gwangju military airport, we will actively seek ways to negotiate with the Ministry of National Defense to disperse the training to other training grounds."
