Yangcheon-gu Doubles Office Space for Disabled Persons' Association Headquarters Relocation
Transformation into an Optimized Venue for Customized Welfare Services for Disabled Persons, Doubled in Size Compared to Previous Office
Significantly Improved Accessibility, Equipped with Various Spaces Including Training Room, Meeting Room, and Multipurpose Room to Perform Core Functions of the Federation
Opening Ceremony Held on the 30th, Expected to Establish as an Activity Hub for Local Disabled Welfare and Rights Enhancement
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will expand and relocate the office of the Yangcheon-gu Disabled Persons’ Organizations Federation to Yangcheon Venture Town, which offers both accessibility and convenience, and hold an opening ceremony on the 30th to promote welfare projects for the disabled and encourage their social participation.
The Yangcheon-gu Disabled Persons’ Organizations Federation is composed of 12 disabled persons’ associations and plays a pivotal role in improving social awareness of disabled people and promoting their independence by overseeing events such as Disabled Persons’ Day.
However, the federation’s office was located on the outskirts, far from Sinjeong-dong, the main activity area of the disabled organizations, and had insufficient parking space, resulting in very poor accessibility for members.
Additionally, the office space was cramped, limiting the types of welfare projects that could be pursued, and the elevator was narrow, making it difficult to board electric wheelchairs and scooters, causing many inconveniences over time.
Accordingly, the district office swiftly established a plan in October 2022 to relocate the office to secure member accessibility and effectively promote welfare projects for the disabled, promptly acquiring Yangcheon Venture Town (267 Sinjeong-ro), located in the central area of the district.
Subsequently, through remodeling work reflecting the opinions of the Disabled Persons’ Organizations Federation, the space was transformed into a pleasant environment optimized for customized welfare services for the disabled.
The newly opened office has secured office space (164.97㎡) twice the size of the previous office (87.3㎡), and its main internal facilities include a ‘office’ operated to improve welfare and rights of the disabled, an ‘education room’ where programs to improve social awareness of the disabled can be conducted, and a ‘conference room’ for meetings to promote welfare projects for the disabled, thereby strengthening support for independent living of disabled persons.
The federation’s office is located in the same building as the ‘Maeumssi Center,’ a resting place for the visually impaired opened last October, enabling more efficient use of customized exclusive spaces for disabled people.
