Members of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Council expressed their welcome over the passage of the special bill for the construction of the Dalbit Railroad in the National Assembly plenary session on the 25th.
All members of the Gwangju City Council issued a statement saying, "The special bill for the Dalbit Railroad, which has been the long-cherished wish of 17 million Yeongho and Nam people, has finally passed the National Assembly plenary session today after many twists and turns," adding, "The National Assembly has finally responded to the strong call not to ignore the aspirations and demands of the Yeongho and Nam regional residents any longer."
They continued, "Although the Dalbit Railroad special bill was proposed last August by a record 261 lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties in the history of the constitution, there were difficulties in enacting the law due to opposition from the Ministry of Economy and Finance and others," and said, "Many people have worked hard. Thank you all. In particular, we deeply thank Chairman Lee Mankyu of the Daegu Metropolitan City Council and the city council members who issued a joint statement with our council for the passage of the law."
They also emphasized, "The Dalbit Railroad will achieve harmony between Yeongho and Nam and resolve the crisis of local extinction," adding, "It is expected to promote balanced national development by connecting the entire country when it meets existing railroads such as the Honam Line and the Gyeongbu Line."
