Gyeonggi-do to Open 6 Public Libraries This Year
Gyeonggi Province will open public libraries in six cities and counties this year, including Seongnam, Siheung, Yangpyeong, Yongin, Anyang, and Hwaseong. As a result, the number of public libraries in the province will increase from 319 to 325.
According to Gyeonggi Province, Seongnam Godeung Library and Siheung Eun-gye Library will open in May. Godeung Library will be 806㎡ in size and located on the third floor of the Godeung-dong Administrative Welfare Center in Seongnam. Eun-gye Library will be established within the Eun-gye Eoullim Center in Eunhaeng-dong, Siheung, and will share facilities with the Youth Culture House, Happiness Health Center, and Senior Small Welfare Center.
Yangpyeong Mulbitjeongwon Library will open in June. Visitors can read books indoors while overlooking the Namhan River, and it is adjacent to Yangpyeong’s attractions such as Yanggam Island and the Namhan River walking trail.
Yongin Dongcheon-dong Pungdeokcheon-dong Library (tentative name) is scheduled to open in September. It will have a total floor area of 3,780㎡ and include a children’s reading room, general reading room, digital zone, and science-specialized zone.
Anyang’s children-only library, Manan-gu Children’s Library, will also open in the same month. Hwaseong Hyangnam Cultural Complex Center Library will open in October.
With a total floor area of 7,221㎡, it will also provide access to facilities such as the National Sports Center.

Kim Dong-ju, head of the Library Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We will continue to increase the number of public libraries to raise the reading rate of residents and improve their quality of life, and at the same time, we will enhance the quality of services to make these spaces places where people want to stay."
