Gwangyang City Provides Subsidies for Hydrogen Vehicle Purchases
198 units, 11.2 billion KRW in subsidies
Applications accepted from the 17th of this month through manufacturers and retailers
Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced that it will promote the "2024 Hydrogen Vehicle Subsidy Support Project" as part of the Gwangyang Hydrogen City Development Project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fine dust.
The support scale is a total of 198 vehicles, amounting to 11.2 billion KRW. By vehicle type, the plan is to support ▲185 hydrogen passenger cars at 34.5 million KRW each ▲11 hydrogen high-floor buses at 370 million KRW each ▲2 hydrogen low-floor buses at 390 million KRW each.
The application period is from the 17th of this month until the budget is exhausted. Citizens wishing to purchase hydrogen vehicles can check the eligible vehicle models on the Ministry of Environment's Zero-Emission Vehicle Integrated Website, visit hydrogen vehicle manufacturers, sales agencies, or dealerships to fill out the application form and required documents, and then apply through the website.
Applicants must be citizens aged 18 or older with a resident registration address in Gwangyang City for more than three months, or corporations and businesses located in the area. Both individuals and corporations/businesses are supported with subsidies for up to one vehicle each.
Shin Oh-hee, Director of the New Industry Division, said, "Through this support project, converting internal combustion engine vehicles to hydrogen vehicles will help improve air quality, reduce greenhouse gases, and decrease fine dust. We hope for active interest and participation from citizens."
Meanwhile, Gwangyang City distributed 146 hydrogen vehicles by 2023 (25 in 2021, 92 in 2022, and 29 in 2023) and provided subsidies totaling 5.037 billion KRW.
In addition, to match the hydrogen vehicle distribution rate, efforts are being made to discover public projects such as hydrogen charging station installation projects and conversion projects of existing gas stations to build charging infrastructure.
Nearby charging stations include Hynet Gwangyang Seonghwang Hydrogen Charging Station, Hynet Yeosu SPG Hydrogen Charging Station, and Hynet Yeosu Dundeok Hydrogen Charging Station. A liquefied hydrogen charging station is scheduled to be completed in early June this year in the Honam Industrial Complex.
