Supporting Children from Broken Families... Planning Cultural Experience Programs This Year

Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Dong-hoon) is attracting attention for its ongoing social contribution activities aimed at walking together with the local community.

According to Gwangju Shinsegae on the 24th, the 'Love S-BOX' event, a project to help neighbors in need within the region, will be held again this year. Established as a local corporation for regional coexistence, Gwangju Shinsegae has been continuing this initiative for eight years since its inception in 2017 to assist marginalized groups in the area.

On the morning of the day, Gwangju Shinsegae held a Love S-BOX delivery ceremony at the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation conference room. Attendees included the Gwangju Shinsegae social contribution team, representatives from the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation and Seo-gu district, and managers from five comprehensive social welfare centers.

The event is being carried out through cooperation among Gwangju Shinsegae, the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, Seo-gu district, and five welfare centers within Seo-gu. The funds prepared by Gwangju Shinsegae are packaged as customized kits containing daily necessities and easy meals, which are delivered to 100 families in need of assistance. Gwangju Shinsegae has donated 5 million KRW monthly for the Love S-BOX, with the total accumulated amount reaching 480 million KRW to date.

Other social contribution programs run by Gwangju Shinsegae include the Hope Scholarship and support for children from single-parent families.

The Shinsegae Hope Scholarship began in 1995, the first year of Gwangju Shinsegae’s establishment, and has continued for 29 years. This program selects children from single-parent families and local youth recommended by related organizations such as the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation and fire stations, providing them with scholarships.

This year, a total of 130 recipients will receive 1 million KRW each as the Hope Scholarship. The cumulative amount of scholarships awarded up to last year totals 3.2 billion KRW to 3,100 recipients.

Following the Shinsegae Hope Scholarship, the support program for children from single-parent families, which started in 2004, is also ongoing. This program provides 840,000 KRW annually per child to 42 children living in Seo-gu to cover expenses such as school supplies. This year, programs such as movie invitations are being planned to broaden cultural experience opportunities for the students.

Gwangju Shinsegae will stand together with the youth who will lead the future of the region so that they do not lose hope and continue to nurture their dreams despite difficult circumstances.”
