More than 300,000 people visited the website within a week for the new name contest of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province. During this period, the number of submitted new names also exceeded 20,000.
As of 9 a.m. on the 24th, Gyeonggi Province announced that the number of visitors to the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province new name contest website (http://bit.ly/새이름공모전) reached 307,498. The number of new name submissions was 20,608.
Gyeonggi Province has been conducting the new name contest for the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province since the 18th of this month.
Gyeonggi Province sees the need for a symbolic name befitting the "growth potential of the Republic of Korea" in the center of the Korean Peninsula, Gyeonggi Northern region, and plans to select a new name through a nationwide public contest that symbolizes the identity and history of Gyeonggi Northern and contains future-oriented values.
The prizes will be awarded in cash, not local currency, considering it is a nationwide contest: Grand Prize 10 million KRW (1 person), Excellence Award 1 million KRW (2 people), and Encouragement Award 500,000 KRW (7 people).
