Semiconductor, Battery, and Display Specialized Graduate Schools to Be Significantly Expanded
Expansion of Advanced Talent Training for Master's and Doctoral Degrees in National Cutting-Edge Strategic Industries
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 24th that it plans to actively expand the training of advanced master's and doctoral talents in national advanced strategic industries by adding three semiconductor specialized graduate schools this year, selecting three battery schools, and one school each for display and bio fields. In this regard, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy is scheduled to announce the support project for advanced industry specialized graduate schools on the 25th.
Specialized graduate schools are designated and supported by the government based on Article 37 of the National Advanced Strategic Industries Act to increase the scale of master's and doctoral professional personnel leading national advanced industries and to improve their qualitative level.
They provide education centered on industry demand-based research and development (R&D) projects and field-oriented education utilizing industry expert faculty. Post-management such as recruitment matching and employment consulting is also provided for graduates.
Universities selected for the advanced industry specialized graduate school support project receive support of approximately 3 billion KRW per university annually, for up to five years, for building educational environments such as research equipment, developing and operating curricula, and promoting industry-academia projects linked with companies.
The application deadline for this advanced industry specialized graduate school is March 14. Selection is made by evaluating the applying universities' capabilities, graduate school operation plans, plans to revitalize industry-academia cooperation, and ripple effects.

Starting this year, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will also evaluate plans for industry-academia projects with companies located in advanced industry specialized complexes to support the active inflow of master's and doctoral talents trained through specialized graduate schools into these complexes.
